2014 Young Authors Contest Winners

Anne Arundel County Reading Council is proud to announce State Winners in the State of Maryland International Reading Association Young Author’s Contest.

Abby McFarland, a 5th grader at Lake Shore Elementary School, earned 1st place for her short story, The Second Shot.  As a previous winner in third grade, this is Abby’s second time earning this statewide honor and fourth time placing at the county level.

Evelyn Mary Rogers, a 2nd grader at Four Seasons Elementary School, earned 1st place for her short story, The Show.

Also earning honors in the writing contest were two Broadneck High School students.  10th grader Alexis Pecknay and 9th grader Hayli Spence both earned third place for their short stories.

Students in grades 2-12 from across Maryland enter the writing contest at the district level.  Winners are selected from thousands of entries.

All winners were awarded a certificate, medal, and an autographed book in a ceremony on April 2 in Hunt Valley. See pictures in our Gallery.
